The Central Texas storm calendar

March through June: hail. Big hail comes off the Hill Country in late afternoon and tracks east over Cedar Park, Round Rock, Pflugerville, Hutto, and Manor.

September through November: wind and rain. Fall fronts lift shingles along ridges and eaves and drive rain under anything already loose.

Winter: ice. Rare, but ice and fallen limbs can damage roofs across Austin. Prepare your roof for Texas storm season

What hail and wind actually do to a roof

Hail bruises a shingle the way it bruises fruit. The mark may be small, but the fiberglass mat beneath can fracture, granules can come loose, and the shingle can fail early. Wind creases shingles along their seal line. Both can be invisible from the driveway and clear on the roof.

The distinction carriers care about is functional versus cosmetic. We photograph both, chalk test squares, and explain what we find. If the damage is cosmetic and the roof is sound, we say so.

How we document a storm claim

  1. Call. Same-day inspection after a storm whenever practical, next day at the latest. Free and no obligation.
  2. The roof walk. Every slope, penetration, and soft metal is documented with dated photos.
  3. Your report. A PDF within 24 hours with every slope photographed and our plain-English read on whether filing is worth considering.
  4. Your decision. It is your policy and your claim.
  5. The adjuster walk. If you file, we are on the roof with the adjuster so each damaged slope, vent, and flashing detail can be seen.
  6. The scope and build. We check the issued scope against roof conditions and schedule work once the scope is settled.

We document. The carrier decides coverage.

We do not file or negotiate claims, waive or absorb deductibles, or promise an outcome. We give you clear roofing documentation; the claim remains yours.

The first 72 hours after a storm

Stay off the roof. Photograph what you can see from the ground, including gutters, screens, the AC unit, and vehicles. If water is coming in, call for emergency tarp protection

Do not sign with the first roofer who knocks and do not file until you have photos. Check the policy for its wind and hail filing window.

I had thought from the ground I had no hail damage and it is very clear that was not the case. I filed a claim with my insurance and they helped me every step of the way.

Questions, answered

Clear information before the next decision.

Roof conditions differ by property. A free inspection helps make the next step understandable.

Should I file a claim for hail damage?

Only if damage appears functional and is worth more than the deductible. Our report helps you understand which side of that line the visible conditions support.

Will filing raise my rates?

Weather claims are treated differently by carriers, but we cannot predict your carrier's underwriting. Ask your agent before filing.

How long do I have to file in Texas?

It depends on the policy. Many limit wind and hail claims to one year from the date of loss. Check the duties-after-loss section or ask your agent.

Do you offer to pay my deductible?

No. Deductibles are the homeowner's responsibility, and we do not make promises or arrangements that conflict with Texas law.

The adjuster said there is no damage. Now what?

Ask for a re-inspection and bring the documentation. You can also seek appropriate independent insurance guidance; we provide the roof report, not adjusting services.
